Shaping the interiors of the 20th century

Interiors of the last century will shape our homes for decades. I found this book on Amazon.com so I ordered it because finally, I have time to study the designers who made history, who influenced the styles of the last century.

It contains bios and beautiful photographs of rooms done by Elsie de Wolfe, Jean Michael Frank, Sister Parish, Albert Hadley, Philippe Starck, Nina Campbell, Andree Putnam, Mario Buatta and others. For the next few weeks I’m going to post some of the information and photographs that interest me.

I can hardly wait! The chapters include “Classic,”which examines how traditional styles have been reworked for the 20th century, “Elegant,” which features the sophisticated, muted palettes of designers such as Albert Hadley and Yves Gastou; and “Organic,” which continues the theme of natural inspiration that began with the Art Noveau and Arts and Crafts movements, showcasing fabrics and furniture in smooth, organic shapes from designers like Philippe Stark and Charles Eames.

Other styles examined in-depth are “Eclectic,” “Opulent” and “Contemporary.”

This will be exciting to share my education with you.
